Lyrics

I was angry with my friend

I told my wrath, my wrath did end

I was angry with my foe

I told it not, my wrath did grow

And I watered it in fears

Night and morning with my tears

And I sunned it with smiles

and with soft deceitful wiles

And it grew both day and night

'till it bore an apple bright

My foe beheld it shine

and he knew that it was mine

And into my garden stole

When the night had veiled the pole

In the morning glad I see

My foe outstretched beneath the tree

William Blake (1757-1827)

Story

(See the track "Hope" for general background).

The music for this song was the track 'Breath' that Klaus recorded for his double live album "Anniversary" (2016). The words are taken from the poem "A Poison Tree" by William Blake (originating from a collection entitled 'Songs of Experience' in 1794).

On this track I do some harmony vocals but again it is important to note that they were all just "first-take" recorded directly onto the cd-version of Schønning's original. And nothing has been edited, mixed or mastered. A true demo, but nevertheless with some emotion and atmosphere. Agree ?
